Flow Cytometry Unit

Developed by: Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón

Description

It is a Research Support Service that performs flow cytometry of cell suspensions with marking of up to 10 fluorochromes. Flow cytometry allows detailed information on the structural and functional characteristics of the cells being studied. The application of the Cell Separator (Sorter) allows the segregation of homogeneous cell populations, up to 6 populations, according to the characteristics analyzed by flow cytometry.

The most frequent applications are cell counting, lymphocyte phenotyping, cytokine studies, cell viability analysis, and other intracellular characteristics that can be monitored by molecular labeling. It is important to note that this technique performs cell-to-cell measurements, beyond the population-based descriptive measures. The identification of cellular molecular markers is applicable in the investigation, diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of very diverse pathologies, so that Flow Cytometry and Cell Separation is a technology involved in translational research.

This service is addressed to all the research groups of the Institute and to other research centers, companies and institutions that request this service.
