Fast Detection of Microorganisms Using Microcalorimetry

A reliable system for fast detection of microorganisms in clinical samples utilizing microcalorimetry has been developed. The new procedure involves comparison of different parameters of a sample thermogram with a database from which identification and quantification can be inferred. As a key characteristic of the invention, a novel mathematical treatment was created. This method has been implemented for bacteria analy ses in several types of human tissues.
Current procedures to detect microorganisms take at least 48 hours and do not use microcalorimetry. By using this technique, it is possible to detect the growth profile of bacteria in less than 24 hours, allowing an early start of the treatment.
