Researchers from the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol have and IMIM have developed a new calculator for the risk of death in patients with heart failure. The tool makes the calculation based not only considering clinical variables, but also taking in account the blood concentration of proteins that indicate that the heart muscle is suffering. Therefore, it improves the accuracy in predicting the risk of death and life expectancy, and allows to intensify the monitoring and treatment of patients with worse prognosis having a more solid knowledge.
The new calculator has been published in the jounal PLOS-ONE and is publicly available for health professionals under: www.bcnbiohfcalculator.cat
