Success stories

  • The intelligent system to avoid errors in pharmacotherapy born in HGUGM is implemented in Murcia

The Hospital Pharmacy Research and Innovation Group of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (#HGUGM), in collaboration with the Hospital Information Systems Department and with the participation of doctors from different Services, has developed a #IntelligentSystem that helps to cross in real time the clinical data of the patient and generates alerts about the convenience of the scheduled #treatments. The new system guarantees an effective, safe and efficient #pharmacotherapy; a rational and safe use of medicines; promotes health strategies based on data analysis and contains #health spending (with an estimated #saving of more than one million euros per year). It has already been implemented in the HGUGM, and also in other hospitals of the National Health System such as the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital (Murcia).

  • Tests that allow diagnosing and treating pathologies in which the body inflames the brain itself

The Clinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology team at the Institut d'investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) Hospital Clínic, led by Dr. Josep Dalmau, has developed several technologies that make it possible to diagnose, predict and treat patients suffering from autoimmune neurological diseases ( the body itself attacks and inflames the brain). These pathologies manifest with memory deficits, behavioral disturbances, epileptic seizures, movement disturbances, psychosis, and sleep disturbances. These new diagnostic tests have been licensed with the support of the IDIBAPS Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office and the ITEMAS Medical and Health Technologies Platform.

  • Aptamers against MNK1 for the treatment of breast cancer

Researchers at the Instituto Ramón y Cajal de Investigación Sanitaria have demonstrated the efficacy of laboratory-made DNA / RNA molecules, aptamers, against breast cancer in animals and cell lines.

  • They develop a drug that destroys, in animals with cancer, metastatic cells without damaging healthy ones.

The Institut de Recerca de l'Hospital de Sant Pau has developed a nanomedicine that acts like a drone: it scans the body's cells and destroys the malignant ones, leaving the healthy ones undamaged and also prevents the appearance of new metastases.
